Yalumba is Australia’s oldest family winemaker. Founded in 1849 by Samuel Smith, five generations later the estate is now run by Robert Hill-Smith. Yalumba has had a long history of making award-winning Cabernet Shiraz blends, dating back to 1919. In 2012 a small quantity was made from that year’s exceptional vintage. The quality of the wine was extraordinary and so Yalumba decided to release it as a flagship tribute to Fred Caley-Smith. Fred travelled around the world in the 19th century investigating horticultural methods which made a significant contribution to the development of Yalumba’s vineyards.

The most expensive wine ever to be released by Yalumba, every element of The Caley packaging not only told the story of Fred Caley Smith but reflected the passion and commitment of the current incumbent of Yalumba, Robert Hill-Smith, to release a family tribute.

“The Caley is the wine we have waited generations to make.”
