Dow’s is one of the most venerable Douro Port houses. Founded in 1798, many of the winemaking methods and traditions are still in place today. We were commissioned to make Dow’s sleeker and more contemporary in order to increase its appeal to younger drinkers.

Foiling on the glass for the Dow’s logo and signature instantly made their bottle more premium and contemporary. The labels are heavily detailed in a blind emboss so the initial appearance is of sleek modernity. Departing from Dow’s tradition of uniform labels, each label reflects the age and price point of the wine.

“We wanted to communicate the pristine provenance of the Douro Valley and the decades of ongoing care and craftsmanship that goes into making these fine ports. The wines are a balance of elegance and detail and that’s what we wanted the packaging to reflect.”

Margaret Nolan, Denomination Creative Director.

“This is a design that transmits the supreme quality of these rare hand-crafted ports. Innovative and contemporary, it builds on Dow’s fantastic heritage and traditional visual cues.”

Paul Symington, Chairman, Symington Family Estates.
